What is SOS-San Francisco?
An SOS is a call for help. We are sending out an SOS to Christians from all over North American to come to San Francisco to bring the gospel message to its people. We welcome evangelical Christians from all denominations to join us. We hold to the Statement of Faith of the National Association of Evangelicals (available upon request). Over the past 20 years, thousands of Christians have participated in this outreach and hundreds of thousands of people have been touched by God's love. Still, there is much more work to be done in reaching the people of this city. This is why we are planning another SOS-San Francisco outreach.
What will I be doing in San Francisco?
We meet at a local San Francisco church each day at 9 AM and 6 PM for prayer, worship, and evangelism training. At noon each day, we will hold an outdoor worship rally in a city park. During the afternoons and evenings, we will send out teams of Christians to various parts of the city. We will witness to people by sharing one-on-one, tract distribution, music, drama, preaching, children's ministry, food distribution, etc. We will also follow-up on new converts, seeking to get them into local churches or discipleship programs. We also schedule special guest speakers and music groups to minister on the streets and at the church throughout the week. Past guests include Arthur Blessitt, Loren Cunningham, John Dawson, Mario Murillo, Ray Comfort, Chuck Girard, Danny Lehmann, Ron Kenoly, and many others.
Where will I be staying during the week?
San Francisco hotels are quite expensive during the summer, so most of those who come sleep at the church. Free housing is available during the outreach (sleeping bags on church floors-men's and women's rooms). We suggest you bring a foam pad. We provide breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday. You can get other meals at nearby restaurants. If you prefer a hotel, we can send you information about relatively inexpensive local hotels. San Francisco summers are cool so bring warm clothes. There are several van lines that will take you directly to the church from the airport for about $12, including American Airporter, 415-546-6689.
Is there any charge for SOS-San Francisco?
The registration fee is $25 for the week to cover outreach expenses such as tracts and permit fees. Breakfast and lunch is $25 for six days or $5 per day. You need to provide for other meals and bus fare if needed. Scholarships are available for those who cannot afford the registration fee. Please write or e-mail us and we'll send you a registration form.
What can I do to help?
Pray for SOS-San Francisco. We need God's guidance in every aspect of this outreach, and we need His Spirit to open the hearts of people to the gospel. Unless God is working through us, our labors are in vain.
Publicize SOS-San Francisco. We have posters and other literature that you can put up in local churches, Christian bookstores, and Bible schools. We also have bulletin inserts that churches can put in their bulletins, and can be given out at Christian concerts and other events. Talk to your pastor and Christian friends and encourage them to get involved. We welcome youth groups and other church groups. Teenagers are welcome with adult supervision.
Finances. We need contributions to help with the costs of printing and mailing literature on SOS, printing tracts, obtaining permits, and other expenses. Contributions are tax-deductible and can be mailed to us at SOS Ministries, P O Box 27358, Oakland, CA 94602.
Come to San Francisco. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. There is much spiritual blindness to the truth of God's Word here. It will take the combined efforts of many Christians working together in the power of the Holy Spirit to have a real impact on this city. This summer could be a turning point in the history of this city and nation, and certainly in the lives of those who will be saved through your witness.
